A new public art mural may be coming to downtown Medford, pending approval. Set to be placed on the north wall of the Rogue Gallery at 40 N. Bartlett Street, the 900-square-foot mural is designed to feature maroon hues and pink florals. The project is a collaboration between the City of Medford's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Facilities and the Rogue Valley Art Association, as reported by the City of Medford.
Local artist Ryan Moon, experienced in outdoor mural painting, will prepare and prime the surface before applying professional-grade paint and a water sealer. The mural will be coated with anti-graffiti protection to help protect it from the elements and vandalism. In addition to overseeing the installation, the City of Medford will be responsible for the mural's maintenance and repairs under an agreement with the property owner.
The wall in question is not classified as historic according to the Downtown Commercial Area Survey of Historic and Cultural Resources, but it is situated within Medford’s Historic Downtown District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This adds cultural context to the location’s transformation.
Before any painting begins, the details must be reviewed. The Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission will consider these matters during a meeting scheduled for today at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Medford City Hall.
