Memphis International Airport is preparing for a busy spring break, expecting over 40,000 travelers. WREG reports that airport officials advise passengers to arrive at least two hours before departure due to the high traffic from Friday through Monday. Peak travel times may see up to 10,000 people passing through TSA checkpoints each day.
FOX13 Memphis reports that the airport expects 48,000 passengers this year, surpassing last year's numbers. The busiest time is expected to be between 4-7 a.m., making parking and navigating security more challenging.
Memphis International Airport website suggest checking in online. Passengers can also use airline apps for real-time updates and take advantage of new security technology, such as CT scanners that allow electronics to stay in carry-on bags. These scanners require all items to fit within specified bin sizes, and large items must be checked.
In addition to shuttle transfers, MEM is adding more signage and staff to handle parking overflow. Passengers are advised to drop off luggage at the terminal before parking in potentially crowded blue or yellow lots. TSA reminds passengers that firearms are prohibited in carry-on bags but can be transported in checked luggage if declared and properly packed.
