
Memphis is looking to quickly become sunny today after starting off overcast, with temperatures on the rise to a high near 81 degrees, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service (NWS). South winds are picking up, expected to blow at 10 to 15 mph in the morning and intensifying to between 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Wind gusts could reach as high as 35 mph.
Change is upon us tonight as showers and thunderstorms are set to largely dominate before 3 a.m., with some storms having the potential to be severe. The NWS reports a south southwest breeze that's going to continue to not only persist, but also increase in speed, blowing at 15 to 20 mph, accompanied by gusts that could peak at 35 mph. "Some of the storms could be severe," the NWS states, with new rainfall amounts ranging from a tenth to a quarter of an inch except possibly higher in thunderstorms. The chance of precipitation stands at a solid 80 percent.
Looking ahead to Saturday, expect showers and thunderstorms to be likely after 7 a.m., carrying the risk of severity once again. With a mostly cloudy day ahead, the high will hover near 72 degrees, with a south southwest wind landing between 10 to 15 mph and gusting up to 25 mph. "Chance of precipitation is 70%," NWS adds, further predicting new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch.
Conditions are forecasted to improve by Sunday, as sunny skies return and temps dial back to a moderate high near 59, with a west northwest wind at 10 to 15 mph. The week is expected to start off on a bright note on Monday with another sunny day and temperatures set to climb back up near 69 degrees. "South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph," indicates the NWS advisory.
Residents should brace for significant winds today as NWS issues a Wind Advisory for parts of East Arkansas, Southeast Missouri, and West Tennessee, effective from 10 a.m. this morning until 1 a.m. CDT Saturday.
