Travelers around Milton can expect to see some noticeable upgrades when hitting the roads near certain bridges. The city has introduced new guardrails, featuring not just increased safety measures but also an aesthetic twist. According to a report by the City of Milton, Gracie Gray Contractors have taken to the task of updating guardrail systems along New Providence Road, Cogburn Road, and Bethany Road, locations deemed most in need following the city's comprehensive survey of its road safety barriers.
The newly installed guardrails stand out with a brown-powder coating, selected to blend seamlessly with the local environment, a departure from the traditional, gleaming silver. This color choice is just one aspect, the guardrails also boast added reflectors, complete with yellow and black markings at one end to enhance visibility during both day and night. This enhancement was mostly funded by the Georgia Department of Transportation's Safety Action Plan, which contributed $240,000 toward the costs of these upgrades,, while the city covered the remaining 30%.
"These guardrail improvements align with our Public Works Department’s goals of ensuring that our transportation network is safe and matches our standards and preferences," the city's announcement stated. This move reflects a larger commitment to public safety and infrastructure suitability, that not only looks at grand scale modifications but also the mundane, everyday improvements necessary for a well-maintained roadway. Residents are encouraged to be a part of this initiative by reporting any road issues through SeeClickFix, an app that has proven useful in such civic engagement.
