Residents of Minneapolis can look forward to a mix of sun, clouds, and a brief interlude with snow this week, according to a recent forecast. In a predictable shift characteristic of spring weather, temperatures are set to swing from a high near 64 degrees today down to conditions ripe for snow by Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service reports that today's mostly sunny sky will give way to partly cloudy conditions by evening, with a low around 34 degrees. Winds from the southeast will shift and gusts could reach up to 30 mph. However, the weather takes an abrupt turn by Tuesday night, with snow likely and a mixture of rain becoming more pronounced after 4 am. Less than a half-inch of snowfall is expected, though, the Northeast wind may blow fiercely at around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
As the week progresses, Wednesday's forecast does not bode well for those weary of winter; snow is expected to continue, potentially heavy at times before tapering off in the afternoon. The day's high will hover near 39 degrees, but north winds blowing at about 20 mph, along with gusts reaching 35 mph, could make it feel significantly colder. "Chance of precipitation is 70%," the National Weather Service advises, with potential new snow accumulation predicted between 2 to 4 inches.
However, relief is in sight as the weather clears up Wednesday night, transitioning toward mostly clear skies with a low of around 26 degrees. The North northwest wind remains blustery, reaching 10 to 20 mph, and gusts could hit the 30 mph mark. The following days promise a respite from the snowy spell; Thursday and Friday's forecasts suggest sun and partial clouds, with highs climbing back into the low 50s. The weekend extends this gentler trend with another sunny Saturday, though Sunday could bring a 40% chance of rain and snow.
For those planning their week around the shifting skies, detailed forecasts can be found and scrutinized on the National Weather Service website.
