The sudden passing of Goodview Fire Chief Jason Gruett has brought a wave of mourning across the Minnesota public safety community. In a recent social media post by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Commissioner Bob Jacobson expressed condolences to Gruett's family, friends, and the many lives he touched during his remarkable 26-year tenure.
"It is shocking when we lose a first responder, no less so when it is a respected, dedicated, and generous firefighter like Goodview Fire Chief Jason Gruett," said Jacobson in the post. Acknowledging the enormous impact of Gruett's loss, the Commissioner highlighted the selflessness that characterizes first responders, a trait that Gruett exemplified by the accounts of his peers. "He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it," Gruett's colleagues have reflected, as stated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
In a show of solidarity and as a reminder to those on the frontlines, resources have been made readily available for those who might need them. Urging first responders to reach out, Jacobson cited organizations such as MNFIRE (888-784-6634) and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988), both of which offer 24/7 assistance. "You are not alone," the Commissioner reassured, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety noted.
