An 86-year-old man from Massachusetts, who had been reported missing, was found within minutes thanks to advanced drone technology deployed by local law enforcement. Reported last seen around 7 p.m. yesterday and missing nearly an hour and a half later, a search for the man was quickly initiated as temperatures hovered around 36 degrees, raising concerns for his safety.
In a coordinated response, the Plainville Police Department called upon the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (METRO-LEC), a mutual aid network that mobilized with speed toward finding the man, as reported by MassLive. The council's specialized units included drones, K-9 teams, and tactical bicycle units that began a methodical search over more than two miles of dense terrain near power lines in Plainville, wearing jeans and a flannel shirt, the missing man.
Through their coordinated efforts, it took only 17 minutes after deploying their drones for METRO-LEC's drone unit to locate the individual in a wooded area not far from the power lines. The prompt discovery allowed for emergency medical services to reach the senior citizen without delay, ultimately securing his safe return to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he has been reported to be in stable condition, according to a statement obtained by John Guilfoil Public Relations.
"Tonight's successful rescue is a testament to the power of collaboration, advanced technology, and the unwavering dedication of our law enforcement and emergency response teams," said Chief James Floyd, with the Plainville Police Department, commending the operation's rapid and professional execution, as detailed by MassLive. The deployment of such specialized units made all the difference in reuniting this individual with his loved ones, revealed during a medical evaluation on the scene, the man was located by drones.
The successful outcome reflects the potential and importance of technology in emergency response scenarios, and highlights the effectiveness of regional partnerships among law enforcement and emergency services. The Plainville Police Department, along with Chief Floyd, expressed gratitude towards METRO-LEC, the Massachusetts State Police, the Plainville Fire Department, and all responding officers for their crucial roles in this operation.
