Monroe County Sheriff's Office is bringing back motorcycle patrols on key highways known for heavy motorcycle activity to address a rise in motorcycle crashes and complaints about high-speed traffic. Sheriff Tommy Jones confirmed the patrols will focus on the Cherohala Skyway and routes leading to the 'Dragon,' including Highways 68, 360, 72E, and 129, as per WVLT report.

The patrols, funded by a grant from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, aim to reduce accidents by focusing on speed enforcement and rider education. According to Sheriff Jones, these efforts are expected to improve safety and reduce the number of motorcycle accidents in the region. Last year, the area saw 41 motorcycle accidents, as noted by 3B Media News.

Chief Deputy Chris White emphasized the department's commitment to safety and positive experiences for visitors and residents. "We want their memories of their visit to the Cherokee National Forest and our county to be only good," he said, as reported by WATE.
