Montgomery County police have launched an appeal to the public for help in identifying human remains found at Rock Creek Regional Park. A hiker's discovery of a skull on March 1 prompted the investigation that has since yielded additional bones and clothing, reported WTOP. No identifying possessions were located at the scene.
The remains are believed to belong to a Hispanic male in his late teens, measuring approximately 5-foot-5 inches tall, as an analysis by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner indicated. However, an official cause of death is yet to be determined. To urgently solicit the public’s assistance, police have released images of the deceased's winter clothing - a hat, jacket, pants, and shoes. Anyone who recognizes the clothing or has relevant information is encouraged to come forward.
WUSA9 adds that the Montgomery County Police Department, while committing to the ongoing investigation, has opted not to disclose the exact location in the park where the remains were found to preserve the integrity of the area. They have reassured the public that there is no indication of any immediate threat to public safety tied to this case.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the identity of the remains or any related details to please come forward. Tips can be submitted to the Montgomery County Police via their non-emergency number at 301-279-8000 or anonymously through the Crime Solvers of Montgomery County’s P3 Tips website, with the potential for a reward ranging between $250 and $10,000 for information leading to an arrest.
