The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners has shone a spotlight on the often underappreciated world of procurement by proclaiming March as National Procurement Month, an homage to those who dutifully stretch every taxpayer dollar to its ultimate effect. At the meeting held last Monday, the Commissioners adopted a Proclamation recognizing the efforts of procurement professionals not just locally, but across the nation, following the lead of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP), as reported on the Nassau County, FL social media page.
In Nassau County's intricate governmental machinery, it's the Procurement Department that keeps the gears turning smoothly, finding cost-effective solutions for goods and services that County requires. They navigate the complexities of bids and proposals, always aligning with the BOCC's Purchasing Policy, stepping up to the significant responsibility of managing funds contributed by the citizenry.
The BOCC used the occasion to highlight the dedication of a team of local procurement professionals, including Procurement Director Lanaee Gilmore; Senior Procurement Specialist Evelyn Burton; Procurement Specialist Thomas "TJ" O'Brien; and Contracts Coordinator Colby Barcous, who, according to the proclamation, are singularly responsible for "ensuring taxpayer dollars are used effectively," as mentioned on the Nassau County Facebook post.
