In a gesture celebrating the often underappreciated work of government finance professionals, Nassau County, FL, has dedicated an entire week to these public servants. According to a social media post from the county, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved a proclamation at their meeting last Monday, declaring March 17-21, as Government Finance Officers Week.
The proclamation specifically gives a nod to the hard-working individuals from the Office of Management & Budget and the Clerk of Courts Finance Division, who labor meticulously to ensure the integrity of financial practices. "The County’s professionals serving in the Office of Management & Budget and the Clerk of Courts Finance Division work hard everyday to ensure that financial policies are being followed and that the processes in place are sufficient," said the Nassau County announcement.
The Florida Government Finance Officers Association (FGFOA), founded in 1937, champions the recognition of these professionals. It boasts a membership exceeding 3,300 from various sectors including state, county, and city governments, school districts, and colleges and universities, among others.
Commissioner John Martin, pictured with representatives from the Office of Management & Budget and Clerk of Courts Finance Division, was present to express his appreciation. The BOCC "expresses their appreciation and commends the finance professionals from the Office of Management & Budget and the Clerk of Courts Finance Division for all their hard work and dedication," the social media post by the Nassau County read, honoring those who contribute tirelessly behind the scenes.
