According to a statement made by Maricopa County, Supervisor Steve Gallardo highlighted the significance of such developments, stating, "This project is proof that affordable housing developments do more than just provide housing – they build stronger communities where families can access essential amenities and collaboratively build a foundation to thrive."
The initiative, which reflects more than just a housing solution, incorporates facilities like a commercial kitchen that's part of Local First Arizona’s Glendale Community Kitchen. This addition represents a beacon for small food-based businesses. Beyond this, the community enjoys access to comfort and leisure with a splash pad, dog park, business incubation space, and a 13-acre walking path, elements that underline Maricopa County's approach toward enriching its residents' life beyond the basics of housing.
Designed to be inclusive, the Centerline on Glendale provides housing for a diverse set of residents, including families with children, the elderly, veterans, the formerly homeless, and special needs households. With an eye toward accessibility, all units are adaptable to accommodate physical disabilities or sensory impairments. The rents are pegged between $476 and $2,054, affordable for households earning between 0-80% of the county's Area Median Income (AMI). Maricopa County’s commitment to tackling housing issues is reflected in its investment of $6 million in ARPA funds to support the development.
Arizona's first affordable housing community financed through state low-income housing tax credits, Centerline on Glendale is a result of effective intergovernmental teamwork. Along with Maricopa County investment, the collaboration has seen the City of Glendale, the Arizona Department of Housing, and other state agencies come together.
