Two New Braunfels City Council members, Christopher Willis and Mary Ann Labowski, have earned the Certified Municipal Official designation from the Texas Municipal League Institute. They completed more than 72 continuing education units in 2024. The recognition was announced at a ceremony in Austin last Friday, according to the City of New Braunfels.

Two New Braunfels leaders, both students, have earned recognition among Texas city officials. After completing two hours of open government training, they were among 30 elected officials in the state to receive a special designation last year. They also received the President's Award for being among the top five officials with the most education hours, as reported by the City of New Braunfels.

"Your New Braunfels City Council is committed to representing our community with integrity and dedication. Councilmember Labowski and I are prepared to continue going above and beyond to meet the residents’ needs," Councilmember Willis told City of New Braunfels officials. Labowski added, "I’m honored to receive this recognition along with Councilmember Willis. I remain dedicated to strengthening our city and will continue working hard to support and uplift our community." The councilmembers were recognized through the Texas Municipal League Institute program, which provides training in ethics, governance, and economic development to Texas' elected city officials.
