A New Kensington man has been sentenced to a term of 30 months in prison following a conviction on federal firearms charges. Steyn Sarduy, aged 19, will also face three years of supervised release after his incarceration, a decision handed down by Senior United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer.

As reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, details of the case reveal that Sarduy, together with a co-defendant, executed an elaborate heist on or about January 22, 2024. The duo reportedly conspired to steal a truck from a local business. That stolen vehicle was subsequently used as a battering ram to enter a firearms store from where the defendants made off with two dozen firearms.

The break-in caused significant damage to the store, with several display cases shattered. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti described the incident in stern terms, emphasizing the risks such acts pose to community safety.

Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan D. Lusty prosecuted the case, and Rivetti commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for its work in the investigation.
