Quintin Green, known on the streets as “Wild Child,” has been handed a steep sentence of 35 years for the murder of former federal witness Shatavia Walls. Green, a member of the Ninedee Gang, pled guilty last April to using firearms in Walls' death and also admitted to an attempted robbery in 2020. In addition to running concurrently, he received a five-year sentence for the robbery attempt, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.
Following the sentencing, United States Attorney John J. Durham described the crime as emerging from a "twisted desire" for retribution against Walls for her testimony and insult to the gang’s honor. Murdered in cold blood, Green's action was labeled as "cowardly" by Durham. “The calculated murder of Shatavia Walls by members and associates of the Ninedee Gang arose from a twisted desire to murder her in retaliation for her federal testimony and perceived disrespect of the gang,” Durham stated, as obtained by the U.S. Attorney's Office. Found guilty of multiple crimes, including murder, the dismantling of the Ninedee Gang was credited to the combined efforts of the FBI and the NYPD.
The Ninedee Gang, rooted in the Louis H. Pink Houses in East New York, maintained their power with violence and by silencing those they suspected of collaborating with law enforcement. In July 2020, Green and his accomplices targeted Walls for murder following her testimony against a fellow gang member, her confrontation with gang members, and her connections with rival apartment buildings. The FBI’s Leslie R. Backschies emphasized, “This premeditated ambush was an unjust retributive attack against a former government witness trying to protect her community from further gang violence. May today’s sentencing reflect the FBI’s continued refusal to tolerate any attempts to intimidate those who speak out against gang violence,” said Backschies, according to the same press release.
As per the U.S. Attorney’s Office details, various gang members participated in the execution of Walls' murder. Being spotted by Green and co-defendant Joe Santana, they opened fire on Walls. Chasing Walls down at the Pink Houses, Green continued to shoot until she eventually succumbed to her injuries. After the crime, Shakur Bey and Kevin Wint helped to destroy evidence and provide shelter for Green.
Several members of the Ninedee Gang have already faced sentencing, with the gang's leader Maliek Miller awaiting a mandatory life sentence. Green's history of violence and criminal activities, including the attempted theft at a Staten Island Target store, contributed to his lengthy imprisonment. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorneys Emily J. Dean, Margi Schierberl, and Irisa Chen in collaboration with law enforcement agencies to secure the sentence. The case against the Ninedee Gang continues as additional members like Raquel Dunton await trial for further charges.
