North Houston Tragedy: Father Suspected of Speeding at 100 mph Causes Crash, Flees, Leaving Injured Family BehindSource: X/Houston Police

In a devastating incident in north Houston, a father is accused of hitting speeds of 100 mph before crashing his vehicle into a ditch, subsequently fleeing the scene and leaving his injured family behind. According to Click2Houston, the crash involved a Chevrolet Avalanche attempting a right turn and a Ford Expedition that the father was allegedly driving at over twice the 35 mph speed limit on Yale Street. The collision sent the Expedition airborne before it landed in a drainage ditch.

All occupants of the Expedition, including a man, a woman, and four children, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The most severe case was an 8-year-old girl, who was reported to be in critical condition. The father, described as the driver of the Ford Expedition, did not stay at the scene post-impact; instead, "another vehicle picked him up and drove away." Investigators are currently searching for the individual. "I have no idea what was going through his mind at the time, I don’t know if there is some other reason he felt he needed to flee," said Cpt. Ryan Watson with HPD in a statement obtained by Click2Houston.

Further reports from ABC13, indicate surveillance video captured the Ford Expedition speeding southbound just before the collision occurred. This evidence is part of the ongoing investigation, and authorities are probing into the cause of the crash and the father's abrupt departure from the scene.

Officials have noted, that although the Chevrolet Avalanche may have made an illegal maneuver, the high rate of speed of the Expedition was likely a significant factor in the severity of the crash. The man driving the Avalanche cooperated with law enforcement at the scene and indicated no signs of impairment.
