The National Weather Service out of Charlotte, N.C. has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of increased fire danger across parts of Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina from noon through this evening. Conditions are expected to be particularly precarious due to very low humidity, forecasted to drop between 20 to 25 percent, and wind gusts reaching up to 25 mph. As the land gasps under a shroud of aridity, officials are urging citizens to heed the ongoing burn bans implemented in both North and South Carolina.
While Mother Nature fans the flames of potential wildfire outbreaks with her blustery breaths, the Charlotte area can anticipate notably warmer weather with sunny skies today, and a high reaching near 79 degrees. Alongside the heat, NWS forecasts shifting winds, a precursor to a turbulent weather streak that will usher in a cold front expected to pass through the region by Monday. This system threatens to deliver showers and possibly severe thunderstorms, featuring damaging winds and hail as its main assailants.
Tonight will be partly cloudy with low temperatures hovering around 57 degrees, as reported by NWS, with a calm south southwest wind settling around 7 mph in the evening. The weekend maintains this pattern of volatility, oscillating between mostly cloudy vistas and the sporadic tempest, stoking both the beauty and the beast of these spring days.
In preparation for the onset of potentially severe weather on Monday, the NWS has also released a Hazardous Weather Outlook, which forewarns of a turbulent mix of showers and thunderstorms that could pummel the area with nature's fury. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared as the cold front swoops in, challenging the serene springtime with a trial of thunder and tempests.
