Parents of children at Oakland Elementary in Tennessee are facing a new challenge outside the school. Due to ongoing renovations at the local Kroger store, the parking lot, which was previously used for school pick-ups, is now off-limits. The Oakland TN Police Department has worked with school officials to implement a new plan and is sharing the updated procedures through a social media post.
Under the new system, parents are instructed to park in the rear of the school where they will be directed by school representatives. An illustration, albeit "very poorly drawn", outlines the new procedure to enter in a single lane, split into two lanes, then extend to four lanes before reducing back to two and finally one lane for exiting. "I know reading this may seem confusing but once you see it you'll get the idea," admitted the department's post, acknowledging the complexity before presenting the guidelines.
According to the Oakland TN Police Department, a cohort of officers, teachers, deputies, and other school associates will be on hand to aid in this transition. Despite the change, everyone involved is working to keep pickup times as smooth as possible, asking all parties involved to "be patient, follow directions weather they come from us or school personnel."
