Oklahoma City's Ward 6 residents, your civic engagement opportunity is around the corner. The Community Public Safety Advisory Board (CPSAB) is opening its doors for an Info Session at the Capitol Hill Library on March 26 at 6 p.m., offering the public a chance to dive into the board's mission, behind-the-scenes actions, and strides in public safety, according to the City of Oklahoma City.
For those interested in the workings of public oversight, this session is a no-cost affair, accessible to all. The venue, located at 327 SW 27th St., will set the stage for a critical conversation moderated by Assistant City Manager Jason Ferbrache. Panelists like Richard Sturt of Community Public Safety Advisory Board Ward 6, JoBeth Hamon the Ward 6 Councilmember, Andrea Grayson the OKC Public Safety Partnership Implementation Manager, and Captain Jermaine Johnson from the Office of Professional Standards, will guide the dialogue, according to a press release from the city, as reported by the City of Oklahoma City.
It's no secret that transparent governance is the bedrock of public trust, and this session is an extension of that principle. Engagement through these info sessions has been a core focus since the board's formation, which was a direct outcome of the Public Safety Partnership's 39 recommendations to bolster public safety - recommendations that were put into the hands of the City Council back in March 2022, as per the City of Oklahoma City.
"The CPSAB enhances community trust and confidence through education and communication," was the sentiment expressed by Implementation Manager Andrea Grayson, in a statement reported by the official City of Oklahoma City website. Through the series of info sessions, commencing in Ward 2 last year, and spilling into other wards, Oklahoma City's efforts to connect its people with the mechanisms of public safety oversight are crystal clear. The Community Public Safety Advisory Board, as a lasting, independent entity, focuses on examining the complaint investigation process, and the outcomes of completed investigations involving Oklahoma City Public Safety Officers, the city's release noted.
