A tragic house fire in North Memphis has claimed the life of one man and left another in critical condition. The blaze, which consumed a residence at the 1300 block of Nicholas Street shortly after midnight yesterday, was reportedly caused by unattended candles. Local Memphis notes that the Memphis Fire Department (MFD) has ruled the incident as accidental.
As per information obtained by FOX13, officers and fire crews responded to the call near the intersection of Nicholas Street and Dorian Avenue. Struck by the aftermath, a quiet neighborhood was, on an otherwise unassuming morning, the site of an immense personal tragedy for those involved.
The incident had one fatality confirmed by the MFD, while another individual was taken to the Med Burn Center, reported in critical but stable condition. The somber air of North Memphis, tinged with the scent of lingering smoke, stands as a testament to the severity of the fire that unfolded the night before.
A third resident, a woman, managed to escape the fire unharmed. Amid the smoldering remains of what was once a home, friends and neighbors are left grappling with the sudden void left by the blaze. From a statement obtained by WREG, a visiter in the area, Robert Joseph-Murray, shared his sympathies, saying, "I hope that the Lord soothes the family members. Losing a loved one is devastating."
