The Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office have recently reported early signs of success with their joint initiative, 'Operation Desert Guardian.' The operation is a specialized enforcement detail set on disrupting the nefarious movements of illicit drugs and criminal activities within Cochise County. With a clear-cut mission of community protection, the collaboration has already yielded tangible results in the form of arrests and seizures.

In an impressive sweep, law enforcement officials performed 114 traffic stops that culminated in nine misdemeanor arrests and three stints in felony jail. Adding to the list of accomplishments, two stolen vehicles were returned to their rightful owners, and officers confiscated 4.5 grams of methamphetamine. These actions are in line with AZDPS and CCSO's focus on blunting the edge of drug trafficking and an assortment of other crimes plaguing the region.

According to a statement obtained by AZDPS, Colonel Jeffrey Glover, Director of the AZDPS, lauded the operation, "The success of Operation Desert Guardian is a testament to the power of partnership in law enforcement." Glover's reflection not only shines a light on the operation's accomplishments but also the synergistic power of such cooperative efforts.

Making headway against transnational cartels, Sheriff Mark Dannels from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office mirrored this sentiment. "The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is proud to partner with our state in the prevention and enforcement of those that serve to transport, distribute, and sell illicit drugs within our communities," said the Sheriff to AZDPS. Dannels emphasized the operation is a crucial stride toward blunting the impact of the ongoing 'War on Drugs.'
