A Brooklyn business suffered a significant blow after a thief made off with more than $35,000 in wigs and supplies. The Hustle Wig, known for its specialized hat wigs designed for comfort, especially for individuals without hair, was the target of the heist that occurred last Tuesday, March 4. NBC New York reported that security footage captured the culprit arriving on a Citi Bike and forcibly entering the premises, not just once, but twice, to haul away the high-value goods.
The store owners, best friends from high school who turned their passion project into a business, feel the theft has been a "big setback." In a statement obtained by NBC New York, Rivki Krinsky expressed her hopes that the "unmasked thief" would be caught and held responsible. The stolen items included human hair, intended for a new line of wigs and a recently increased cost has made the loss even more pronounced, Gitty Cohen, echoed the sentiment in her comments about the theft.
Following the incident, a detective was assigned to the case to work with The Hustle Wig in identifying the bike-riding bandit. According to a report on CrownHeights.info, authorities have not found any evidence suggesting it was a targeted attack, or there's an ongoing threat against the Crown Heights establishment. However, the theft is being investigated as grand theft due to the value of the items stolen.
In spite of the loss, the women behind The Hustle Wig remain resilient. They have reached out to the public for assistance, with the store owners and local law enforcement urging anyone with information about the crime, to step forward. A video of the break-in has been released to aid in the identification of the suspect, with contact available for those who might possess useful information.
