An Overland, Missouri man has entered a guilty plea to a charge of receiving child pornography and confessed to having unlawful sexual contact with a minor, officials said. James Donald Goings, 36, was implicated after sending child sexual abuse material through his Google account, which caused alarm and triggered CyberTipline Reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
As reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, law enforcement's investigation intensified on July 21, 2022, after obtaining a search warrant for Goings' residence. Authorities seized computer equipment and through analysis, uncovered deceitful travel to Illinois for sexual involvement with a 15-year-old, alongside another disturbing connection with a teen in Georgia, both of whom were encountered on Grindr. Goings' plea acknowledged his direction of the Georgia-based minor to perform sexual acts during video calls.
In the plea, Goings admitted his possession of a staggering array of abuse material – around 2,500 images on his computer and another 190 on his Google account. With his conviction, Goings faces a federal sentence ranging from five to 20 years in prison come June. Among the consequences, Goings is acquiescing to the forfeiture of his communication and storage devices as part of his criminal proceedings.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Chapman is in charge of prosecuting this disturbing case. The investigation was a coordinated effort between the St. Louis County Police Department, and the Edwardsville Police Department in Illinois. The case has emerged under the banner of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide movement started by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat the surge of child exploitation and abuse through enhanced collaboration of federal, state, and local agencies.
