A collision in southern Lapeer County yesterday morning claimed the life of a veteran special education teacher and left a teenager injured. Roxann Johnson, a 61-year-old Oxford resident with over 25 years of commitment to Lapeer Community Schools, was fatally wounded when her Jeep Cherokee collided with a 1971 AM General M931A2. According to MLive, the incident occurred around 7:29 a.m. on South Lapeer Road when the military vehicle veered across the center line.
The Metamora Township Police Department was quickly to respond to the scene, where Johnson had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life but was pronounced dead shortly after. The 17-year-old driver of the military truck suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital, as stated in the release from the department. The section of M-24 was closed for approximately two and a half hours to allow for an investigation and response efforts.
