A part-time employee with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was arrested on multiple DUI charges following a collision with a parked excavator in Jacksonville's Argyle Forrest neighborhood. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. yesterday, according to First Coast News.
Thomas Turbeville, 54, was found by responding JSO Community Service Officers in his Ford vehicle, which had crashed into the John Deere Excavator. An odor of alcohol was detected coming from Turbeville's car, and he exhibited signs of intoxication such as slurred speech and a lack of coordination. He was "very uncooperative," Officer Christian Hancock told First Coast News.
Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation with Turbeville, who resisted orders and had visible signs of impairment, including "bloodshot, watery eyes with droopy eyelids and a flushed red face," as reported by News4Jax. After refusing to exit his vehicle and give a statement concerning the crash, Turbeville was removed from his car and arrested on site.
Notably, Turbeville was not on duty and was using his personal vehicle at the time of the event. He has been charged with multiple counts of DUI and resisting an officer without violence. According to Action News Jax, this arrest marks the second Jacksonville Sheriff's Office employee taken into custody this year. Following the incident, Turbeville was transported to Duval County Jail.
