The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has unveiled plans to carry out repair operations on the Strickersville Road bridge over Big Elk Creek in Franklin Township, Chester County, with impacts to local traffic expected in April. Local drivers should brace for road closures and detours as the bridge, which was constructed in 1938 and underwent reconstruction in 1975, undergoes necessary improvements.
Motorists will face a detour from Monday, April 7, to Friday, April 11. During the road closure, the prescribed alternate route will take drivers along Route 841 (Chesterville Road), Route 896 (New London Road), and Appleton Road, PennDOT announced. Local access to the area will be maintained to just before the work zone, and backups and delays may occur, which may require drivers to factor in additional time for their commute.
Statistics reveal that the bridge – 92 feet in length and 23 feet in width – carries around 709 vehicles each day. The upcoming repair work is a segment of a broader initiative, a $9.5 million undertaking meant to rehabilitate several critical structures throughout the five-county Philadelphia region.
King of Prussia-based Loftus Construction, Inc., has been awarded the contract for the repair project, which is being funded in full using state resources. "This repair work is part of a $9.5 million project to replace or rehabilitate several structures across the five-county Philadelphia region," PennDOT's release states. When travel conditions on major roadways are questionable, motorists can turn to the 511PA service, accessible via the web, smartphone app, or telephone, to check for updates on traffic delays, current speeds, and even see live traffic camera feeds.
