Phoenix has stepped up its data game with City Manager Jeff Barton announcing the launch of the City Manager’s Performance Dashboard 2.0. Its newest iteration boasts over 165 key performance indicators designed to enhance transparency, improve city operations, and give residents clearer insights into municipal workings, as per a recent city announcement.
The expanded dashboard, accessible through the city's website, includes a wide array of 31 city departments, covering everything from Police and Fire to Homeless Solutions and beyond. Despite the cumbersome interface, residents had expressed a desire for more data, and that is precisely what Barton's team delivered, revamping how information is structured and setting sights on Phoenix's long-term objectives, as quoted by the City Manager himself on the City of Phoenix website.
Since its original inception in June of 2022, the Dashboard has experienced considerable attention, drawing over 30,000 unique visitors and amassing upwards of 75,000 page views from locals and international visitors alike, indicating a prevailing interest in the civic processes not just domestically but globally.
In a leap of analytical prowess, 2024 marked Phoenix's attainment of the Platinum-Level certification from Bloomberg Philanthropies' What Works Cities, propelling it into a stratosphere shared by only three cities worldwide. This highest honor reflects a commitment to data-driven governance and an adherence to a standard that demands not just the collection but the strategic application of data. The award lauds the city's continuous strides toward operational excellence and public accountability—data that stakeholders and residents alike can access, analyze, and scrutinize, now with even greater granularity through the Performance Dashboard's latest expansion.
Management and further enhancements of the dashboard reside within the City Manager's Office of Innovation and Performance, an entity consistently pushing the envelope on how municipal governance can better leverage data for the benefit of all Phoenicians; interested parties can reach out at [email protected] for inquiries or further information on this digital endeavor.
