Pinellas County residents who have a passion for books and libraries have an opportunity to play a key role in shaping local library services. The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners is currently accepting applications for an open position on the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative (PPLC). Selected applicants will have the chance to serve the remainder of a term ending September 30, with the possibility of a three-year renewal.
According to information found on the Pinellas County's official website, the PPLC works diligently to bring library services to unincorporated areas and enhance library experiences for all county residents. The open position is volunteer-based and comes without compensation. Applicants are expected to possess prior board service experience and have skills in evaluating diverse perspectives ranging from service providers to the needs of patrons.
Desired candidates for the PPLC board position should represent the interests of multiple stakeholders such as the county, the cooperative itself, and both members and patrons of libraries. Additionally, they must not currently be an employee or part of any member library's governing body. An ideal candidate holds a vision for the future of countywide library services and is equipped to contribute meaningfully to said vision.
The cooperative board meets generally on the last Wednesday of the month at the PPLC office located in Clearwater or at alternate sites including different member libraries. Potential applicants can secure the necessary forms and submit their applications through the Pinellas County website, provided they do so by next Friday, 3 p.m. deadline. The Board of County Commissioners will review these submissions and is expected to make a selection during an upcoming meeting. It's worth noting, interested parties should be aware that all materials submitted in application to the county are subject to public records laws as mandated by the State of Florida.
