A routine traffic violation in West Sacramento escalated into a police chase that concluded with an arrest in downtown Sacramento, the West Sacramento Police Department reported. The incident started when officers attempted to pull over a driver for failing to stop at a sign, only to have the suspect lead them on a chase after refusing to yield. According to the social media post by the West Sacramento PD, after the suspect's vehicle pursuit, the individual attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended without further complications.
During the search of the suspect's car, police discovered identifiable handgun ammunition along with methamphetamine. In another twist, an alert resident from Maryland and Alameda reported finding a loaded handgun on the pathway of the previous pursuit, leading officers to a gun loaded with ammunition matching that in the suspect's vehicle.
The apprehended suspect, whose name hasn't been released, was found to have an existing felony warrant and two prior convictions, which, under the recently enacted Proposition 36, added another felony charge to their rap sheet. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Yolo County Jail.
The West Sacramento Police Department noted the importance of such partnerships in maintaining public safety. "We are thankful to get this suspect and gun off of the streets," the department's social media post said, highlighting the collective effort that led to the resolution of the case.
