A predatory stalker, Tyler Wakefield, age 27, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after a series of incidents where he targeted and attacked women in Collin County. As reported by the Collin County District Attorney's Office, Wakefield's crimes included stalking, ambushes, and attempted assault across multiple locations within the county.
In an attack on July 22, 2022, Wakefield accosted a woman visiting a Plano apartment complex, forcing her into a stairwell and attempting to assault her. The attack was disrupted by the presence of a passing vehicle and a resident returning home, which startled Wakefield and spurred him to flee the scene, smashing the victim's phone to prevent her from calling for help. Returning to the same location hours later, filled with arrogance, Wakefield was inadvertently identified when witnesses and the victim took a photo of his license plate.
Detectives from the Plano Police Department, named Carlos Harwell and Catherine Foreman, played crucial roles in the investigation leading to Wakefield's capture. As part of the surveillance operation following the Plano incident, detectives observed Wakefield engaging in further stalking behavior, like following a jogger in Anna and hiding behind cars to track women in various parking lots. The prosecution's case was bolstered by the testimony of Detective Harwell and the interrogation conducted by Detective Foreman.
Judge Kim Laseter handed the 15-year sentence to Wakefield after pleading guilty to robbery. Based on evidence presented during the trial, the court heard detailed accounts of Wakefield's actions, which included not only stalking but also physical and sexual assaults against multiple women, an aggravated assault where he rammed a woman's car containing her child, and pursuing her until law enforcement intervened. Despite the punishment range for robbery being 2 to 20 years or probation, Judge Laseter's decision reflected the gravity of the crimes.
