In a brazen act of theft, detectives from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office call upon the public for assistance following the disappearance of a hefty crane from a construction site in the southern reaches of Columbus. According to a social media update from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, "Around 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 31, The Kent Power Company reported a stolen crane at a construction site on Parsons Avenue, near the Eldorado Casinos at Scioto Downs."
The stolen machinery, a 2019 Kenworth 60-ton Long Boom National Crane, is valued at north of $500,000. It is a significant piece of equipment that requires not only considerable experience but also the specialized knowledge necessary to operate it. The theft is believed to have occurred either in the dead hours of the night or throughout the hushed tones of the weekend preceding the discovery.
In light of the crane’s unmistakable presence and notable worth, detectives believe that the perpetrator(s) could hardly easily hide such a sizeable item. The hope is that the community will take swift notice if the crane creeps into plain sight. "Given its size and value, the 60-ton crane would be difficult to conceal and should be easily recognizable," said the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in their appeal to the locals.
This case, still wrapped in the garments of an active investigation, beckons those with any shred of information to step forth and possibly help return the stolen property to its rightful owners.
