Good news for aspiring lifesavers in Ramsey County; a partnership has formed that will probably float your boat. Ramsey County Parks and Recreation is joining hands with New Brighton Parks and Rec to offer lifeguard certification and re-certification classes this spring. Interested candidates can dive into the details and register over at CivicRec.
For those eager to make a splash, the certification process is not a drop in the pond. There are two full courses planned: the first from April 17-19 at Highview Middle School in New Brighton, and the second running June 5-7 at Edgewood Middle School in Arden Hills. If you're already in the swim of things but need to renew your certification, mark May 17 on your calendar for the re-certification course at Edgewood Middle School, and yes, you too have to register.
Despite Battle Creek Waterpark, or the artist formerly known as Battle Creek Water Works, getting a facelift and being off-limits this summer, Ramsey County isn't taking a break from hiring lifeguards for beach duty. It's an open call to those who enjoy the tan lines, the fresh air, and, most importantly, the responsibility of keeping our waters safe. It's a job that could make your summer memorable, not to mention lifesaving skills are forever in season. Interested parties should stay tuned for the seasonal job interest form and can gather more details here.
Meanwhile, why bemoan the closure of Battle Creek Waterpark when the opportunity to save lives and serve your community is floating on the horizon? More updates about these summer lifeguarding spots, and how to jump into them, will be coming along shortly. Feel free to start your summer job plotting now; it's never too early to plan for those long, sunlit days by the water, lifeguard whistle in hand.
