A 21-year-old man identified as a "high-ranking" member of a Riverside street gang has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor, according to the KTLA. Juan Nieto-Sanchez, known to local law enforcement and tagged with the moniker "Sleepy," was already behind bars for a parole violation when detectives discovered his involvement in a sexual relationship with an underage individual.
While Nieto-Sanchez was in custody at a Riverside County jail, investigators linked him to the alleged sexual abuse, and he is now facing additional felony charges. Nieto-Sanchez is considered a prominent figure within the Sur Riva Tiny Winos gang, which operates primarily in the southern areas of Riverside, and it was during the course of their probe into his parole violation detectives came across evidence of his alleged criminal contacts with minors via social media, an activity he seemingly continued even after his release from state prison in October 2024, as reported by the Riverside Police Department.
The Riverside Police Department’s Child Abuse Unit and the Gang Intelligence Unit are actively pursuing the investigation and have suggested the existence of potentially more victims who have not yet come forward. Nieto-Sanchez's bail has been set at a steep $2 million, as per the Riverside Police Department's Facebook post.
