A tragic vehicular incident unfolded on Interstate 4 as a 48-year-old man from Ruskin was confirmed dead and three of his passengers injured, causing a considerable shutdown of the westbound lanes yesterday. The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the collision took place near Milepost 1, east of I-275, at approximately 7:17 a.m., as reported by WFLA.

Involved in the mishap, a Kia Sedona, reportedly deviated onto the inside shoulder where it collided with an attenuator. Following this initial impact, the Kia was sent careening back into the travel lanes, consequently striking a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 21-year-old man from Parrish. Traveling west on I-4, the driver of the Nissan was unharmed in the collision, as per information obtained from WTSP.

The Florida Highway Patrol has disclosed that the 48-year-old driver of the Kia Sedona perished at the scene of the crash. The three passengers who bore witness to this tragedy from within the Sedona suffered injuries. Although non-life-threatening, they were swiftly transported to local hospitals for the medical attention demanded by such a violent turn of events. "The three passengers traveling in the Kia, including the one that was thrown from the car, all suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital," confirmed the Florida Highway Patrol in a statement covered by the WTSP.

While the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, authorities have yet to unravel the 'unknown reason' prompting the Kia to stray off course. Thrown from the vehicle, amidst the wreckage, a passenger lay on the roadway until emergency responders arrived. This stark scene of disruption on I-4 lingered well into the hours of the morning, leading to the temporary closure of the lanes affected, as ABC Action News reported after the crash.
