Sammamish City's private stormwater system inspection has been ensuring that privately owned stormwater systems stick to local requirements. According to the City of Sammamish, the program started under King County's watchful eye, and later, in 2010, the city took on the responsibility with its own hires.
Every year, nearly 200 systems get a thorough check-up by city staff. The setup usually involves ponds, ditches, pipes, and catch basins that are designed to manage and purify stormwater, thereby reducing flooding and preventing pollutants from marring water quality. However, it's up to property owners to keep their systems in tip-top shape.
Operating and maintaining a private stormwater system isn't just recommended, it's mandated. Neglect or fail to do so will cost penalties and worse, it could affect the environment. The City of Sammamish is serious about water quality and flood control and they expect private property owners to be, too.
