A Mexican national was taken into custody this week in San Antonio on charges tied to his alleged unlawful return to the United States, a repeat offense for the individual who has a history of criminal convictions in this country. The arrest was carried out by the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force, occurred at the residence of Pedro Ruiz-Cisneros on Tuesday, according to court documents released by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

As per the allegations, Ruiz-Cisneros has been previously deported from the U.S. five times after being classified as an aggravated felon, with removals dating back to April 1994, and the most recent occurring in June 2018. Upon his convictions, which include second-degree robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, he spent significant time confined and was sentenced to a total of 133 months in federal prison for illegal re-entry, spanning from 2007 to 2016.

Following the arrest, Ruiz-Cisneros faced a federal court on Wednesday, where he was charged with one count of illegal re-entry. If he is found guilty of this latest charge, he could confront up to 10 years of imprisonment. Sentencing, which falls under the discretion of a federal district court judge, will factor in the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines as well as other statutory nuances, as the office of Acting U.S. Attorney Margaret Leachman for the Western District of Texas declared.

The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement Removal Operations are probing into the case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Anne Marie Cordova is tasked with the prosecution. However, it's important to remember that, under the law, Ruiz-Cisneros maintains the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt within the confines of a court trial.
