A Mississippi police officer, certified only weeks prior, faces severe legal challenges. Amaris Howard, a Sardis Police Department officer, has been charged with three counts of enticing a minor. According to a WREG report, the Panola County Sheriff’s Office announced the charges but held back further details, given the ongoing investigation.
A tip received on March 5, intimating that Howard was allegedly involved in misconduct with juveniles, expedited the inquiry. Subsequently, on Monday, Howard faced arrest, and the Sardis Police Department contributed to the probe—the same department that recently lauded his efforts in becoming certified. In a March 14 Facebook post, which seems ironic in hindsight, they had celebrated him as one of their newest accredited officers. Now, their online praise collides with stark allegations, deeming further commentary from the department inappropriate.
In response to an inquiry regarding Howard's employment status and the case details, the Sardis Police Department advised FOX13 that updates would be provided when available, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
