The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is working to improve the movement of goods and services in the city. The SDOT Freight Program is partnering with the Port of Seattle, railroads, freight operators, delivery drivers, and e-cargo bike carriers to make transportation safer and more efficient.

According to the Seattle Department of Transportation release, a major boost for the program is the 2024 Seattle Transportation Levy, which has increased funding for the Freight Program to $45 million over the next eight years. This funding will help improve travel safety, complete maintenance work, and support various freight-related projects to improve Seattle's logistics system.

To better manage the growing workload, the Freight Program has been restructured within Seattle Department of Transportation. Previously operating independently, it is now part of the Project Development Division, where the freight team can collaborate with planners and designers on larger projects.
