After President Donald Trump took to the podium to address Congress, reactions were swift and critical, particularly concerning issues crucial to everyday Arizonans. Senator Mark Kelly, a voice for Arizona, did not mince words when he outlined his concerns with the President's proposals.
In attendance at the event, Senator Kelly immediately voiced his disapproval of the President's emphasis on tax breaks for affluent individuals amid soaring prices affecting his constituents. "Arizonans are struggling right now with high prices at the grocery store and at the gas pump, and President Trump’s response is to give huge tax breaks to rich people on the backs of hard-working Americans," Kelly said, according to a statement on his official Senate page.
With no clear strategy presented to alleviate the financial burdens on working families, the Senator criticized the President's staunch stance on trade tariffs. "President Trump didn’t explain how he’ll make it easier for working people to get ahead, instead he doubled down on tariffs that are going to jack up prices even further and kill Arizona jobs," Kelly stated.
Kelly also highlighted the President's intention to scrap the bipartisan CHIPS Act, a move that, according to the statement, has created thousands of jobs in Arizona. The senator expressed concern over this potential job loss, saying, "He said he’d get rid of the bipartisan CHIPS Act which has created thousands of great-paying jobs in Arizona." The lack of a clear vision to lower costs for families was also lamented in Kelly's critique, encapsulated by the words, "Tonight, we heard more excuses and no real plan to lower costs for families."
