After 25 years of service, Sgt. Ross Diskin is retiring from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office to become a baseball coach for his children. His retirement ceremony on Monday recognized his contributions to public safety and his career, which began in 2000 as a Detention Officer and progressed through roles as a patrol deputy, detective, and patrol sergeant. Honored as the Certified Officer of the Year in 2005, he received multiple commendations throughout his career. Sheriff David Rhodes acknowledged his impact, stating that Sgt. Diskin "has meant a ton to this agency," according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Diskin spent his final years in Bagdad, a community he described as "is a great place for kids to grow up." As he retires, he will focus on youth development. Reflecting on his work, he said, "Criminal Investigations is what clicked for me…I would rather investigate a homicide than a DUI." Sheriff Rhodes praised his efforts, describing "some amazing casework" during his decade as a detective, as reported by the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Diskin’s departure has impacted Yavapai County, with colleagues and professionals from the County Attorney's office recognizing his skills and dedication to justice. A co-worker stated, "You exude the qualities you would put on a recruiting poster for a detective," while Yavapai County Sheriff's Office Captain John Johnson noted, "You showed God's love for those who didn’t have a voice." His work in the community and with victims has been acknowledged, and his absence will be noted in Bagdad and throughout the county.
