Sherwood's Highway 99W faced a weekend shutdown as crews worked to install an aesthetically pleasing pedestrian and bicycle bridge, an effort aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and community connectivity. According to KGW, the highway was closed off between Southwest Edy Road and Southwest Sunset Boulevard starting from 9 p.m. on Friday, with anticipations of reopening by the early hours of Monday.
The construction, which led to the highway's temporary closure, is part of a larger plan that requires several weekend-long disruptions between the present and May. This preparatory work is laying the foundation for the bridge's slated opening this coming fall. Detours were managed by flaggers who guided the traffic around the construction site, a minor inconvenience for a future community resource.
As the process continued, KOIN advised drivers to anticipate future closures and plan their travels accordingly.
