The Southwest Regional Library is ringing in its first year of community service and literacy, celebrating its birthday on April 12 starting at 10 a.m., taking pride in a year dotted with expansive library collections, burgeoning programs, and brimming meeting spaces since its opening on April 19, 2024, according to an announcement on the Union County website.
Kicking off with a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m., the event will unveil two new outdoor features—the Story Walk and Literacy at Play spaces, which stand as testaments to the generosity of donors via the Union County Library Foundation; and with these new attractions, the foundation continues its vital philanthropic role, injecting funds into books, facilities, technology, and programmatic spheres for the betterment of Union County Libraries.
In a statement obtained by Union County, the Library Director, Nina Chaffin, expressed the sentiment behind the upcoming festivities, "After an incredible year of serving our community, this celebration is not just about our achievements but also about the future possibilities," signaling a mere beginning of what the library envisions for its role in the local community.
The anniversary is packing in a day of engaging, family-friendly activities—think outdoor games and craft stations, along with educational showcases of library resources, plus, get a glimpse at OLiVe, the new mobile outreach library vehicle, a symbol of the library's commitment to stretching its tentacles of knowledge, carrying books, tech, and programs right into the community's arms.
As the Southwest Regional Library turns the page to its second year, the public is invited to join in the commemoration of its growth and expansion—further details on the upcoming library anniversary event can be found on the Union County website.
