In the spirit of Mardi Gras, St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office deputies hit the streets, but not for their usual patrols. They were there to keep local school parades safe, escorting marching students and managing traffic to ensure the celebration stayed joyful and smooth.
The schools that received this support included a span from Kids Kampus Learning Center to J.F. Gauthier Elementary, with deputies taking part in the revelry at various educational institutions like Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Arabi Elementary, and Chalmette Elementary, to name a few. According to an official statement from the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office, "Our deputies have helped with Carnival parades at Kids Kampus Learning Center, Bright Beginnings Day Care, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Arabi Elementary, Meraux Elementary, Joseph Davies Elementary, Chalmette Elementary, Lacoste Elementary, Willie Smith Elementary and J.F. Gauthier Elementary."
Mardi Gras, a festival known for its exuberance and cultural significance, often brings to the forefront the spirit of community. The deputies' involvement goes beyond their call of duty, contributing to a sense of safety and support for the festivities that engage the younger members of the community.
While the essence of Mardi Gras is maintained amid the colorful floats and cheerful music, the Sheriff's Office underscores the importance of security with their active presence. "Safety First" is not just a hashtag but a real commitment as indicated by the deputies’ presence, which also included services from Willie Smith Elementary to J.F. Gauthier Elementary.
