Significant lane reductions are on the horizon for a stretch of State Route 227 at Boyd-Kennedy Road. From March 15 through March 19, lanes will be cut to one in each direction from 7 a.m. to 7 a.m. the following day, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). This is in anticipation of a new traffic roundabout set to be constructed later this spring.
Expect slower driving at 35 mph in the area, with moderate delays, so plan for extra travel time. NDOT is optimizing traffic control before building the roundabout, weather permitting. Roadside shoulder closures will also narrow the road.
When construction starts this spring, expect more lane shifts and reductions. The new roundabout will be bigger than the one at Lamoille Highway and Spring Creek, but it's expected to improve traffic for the 11,000 daily drivers.
The project also focuses on safety and aesthetics, with new pedestrian crosswalks, LED lighting, road signs, and wildlife metal cutouts. Acceleration and deceleration lanes will be added at Lamoille Highway, Trescartes Avenue, and Spring Creek High School. Once finished, the speed limit approaching the roundabout will be 45 mph, with a recommended 25 mph through it.
Expect some delays and detours in the coming weeks and spring. Stay updated and plan accordingly for your daily travels.
