A Stockton man has been handed a 15-year sentence for his involvement in a drug trafficking and firearm possession case, according to recent federal court rulings. Alphonso Jimenez, 34, faced charges stemming from his possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl, along with possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, as stated in the Department of Justice press release from the office of Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.
The investigation that brought Jimenez to justice began in 2021 and involved local and federal law enforcement agencies. Undercover operations included purchases of narcotics from Jimenez and his co-defendant, Erik D. Mendoza-Contreras. Jimenez was caught delivering a significant 28 pounds of methamphetamine on February 23, 2022, which he intended to distribute to a customer through Mendoza. Investigators later searched Jimenez’s home, where they seized an impressive 69.2 pounds of methamphetamine, 62.8 pounds of cocaine, 15 pounds of heroin, 9 ounces of fake pills laced with fentanyl, approximately $297,000 in cash, and a firearm, "according to court documents" obtained by the Department of Justice.
The prosecution of this case fell under the jurisdiction of Assistant U.S. Attorney Antonio J. Pataca, after an extensive investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the San Joaquin County Metropolitan Narcotics Task Force. The severity of the charges reflects the significant quantity of narcotics and the dangerous combination of drugs and firearms in Jimenez's possession.
While Jimenez has now been sentenced, charges against Mendoza remain pending, and he maintains the presumption of innocence unless – and until – proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The case against Mendoza is still developing and has yet to conclude with a firm sentencing or acquittal.
