A four-year cold case of a home invasion and burglary that left Palm Desert residents shaken has been recently heated up with the arrest of a suspect identified as Louis Moises Hernandez, a 38-year-old Indio local.
According to a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, the unsettling incident took place on August 15, 2021, where an intruder, now alleged to be Hernandez, entered a home multiple times in the early morning hours while residents were asleep, subsequently engaging in a physical confrontation with one victim before fleeing the scene.
Justice's slow machinery began to grind as the Major Crimes Unit, Palm Desert Investigation's Bureau, and the Palm Desert Station Special Enforcement Team zeroed in on Hernandez's location, tracing him to the 45000 block of Palmwood Court where, following a brief vehicular pursuit starting at 1:00 p.m after a failed stop, Hernandez was apprehended without further incident on Thursday, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office outlined.
Riverside authorities have since transported and booked Hernandez at the Robert Presley Detention Center, with charges looming over him for home invasion robbery and residential burglary—a statement from the sergeant overseeing the case, Sergeant Rovann Cleveland, has confirmed. The case remains under active investigation, urging anyone who might have relevant details to reach out to Investigator Joshua Smith at the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station.
