After a prolonged investigation spanning three months, NYPD has captured the suspect in a tragic Bronx homicide. Anthony Riser was apprehended yesterday and is now facing charges of murder, manslaughter, and two counts of criminal weapon possession in the fatal shooting of Richard Spigner Jr.
The arrest follows the distressing incident that unfolded on December 21 outside Spigner's residence on Rodman Place in West Farms. Bronx News 12 reports that Spigner, a 28-year-old father, was senselessly shot in the face and chest. Riser, who lived merely a few doors down from the victim, quickly became the primary suspect in this unexpected act of violence.
According to the NY Daily News, the confrontation began when Riser entered the building looking for information about an individual with whom he had a previous disagreement. Tasia Legrand, Spigner's sister, told the publication that her brother was mistakenly drawn into the quarrel, lending his phone to Riser to facilitate a call that soon became contentious. It is alleged that as the situation rapidly escalated, Riser drew a gun and discharged multiple rounds, fatally wounding Spigner.
Spigner, remembered by family and friends for recently beginning a new job at a nursing home and as a dedicated father to two young sons, ages 3 and 1, tragically had his life cut short. On February 10, the NYPD intensified their search for Riser, releasing his photo and appealing for public help in locating him. After weeks of investigation, the suspect was finally taken into custody.
