Tristan Jackson, identified as a suspect in the Brooklyn Day mass shooting of 2023, has pleaded guilty to a range of charges, including second-degree assault and firearms offenses. The Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office confirmed these developments, indicating a major step in the judicial proceedings of a case that has afflicted the city with its sheer brutality and loss of life.
The altercation, which transpired in the early hours of July 2, 2023, at an unpermitted block party in the Brooklyn Homes development, resulted in the death of two individuals and wounded 28 others. According to FOX Baltimore, the massive gunfire outbreak marks the worst mass shooting in Baltimore’s history. Among the deceased was Aaliyah Gonzalez, whose mother, Krystal Gonzalez, has voiced discontent with the plea deal, stating, "Their actions actually caused a death...and for homicide not to be, or murder not to be a part of the charges...this is not putting a period on it for us."
Originally charged with seven counts of Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Murder, seven counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, and 41 other related charges, Jackson's guilty plea to the adjusted charges include second-degree assault, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, and minor in possession of a firearm, as reported by WMAR2 News. This comes after Jackson was placed at the scene by GPS records due to being on monitoring for an unrelated incident at the time of the shooting.
Jackson is now slated to be sentenced on April 29, facing a minimum of five years and a maximum of 12 years in prison. This follows the plea and subsequent 12-year prison sentence of Aaron Brown, another individual associated with the case, who pleaded guilty to attempted murder charges last May. Three other suspects, who were juveniles at the time of the shooting, have also pleaded guilty and received their sentences, according to WBALTV.
