A fire in Pittsburgh's Troy Hill neighborhood caused a building to collapse and sparked suspicions of arson on Sunday, as reported by several local sources. Flames engulfed an empty house on Herman Street at Adair Street, and public safety officials declared the building a total loss after it collapsed around 12:30 p.m., according to WPXI.
Emergency crews were dispatched quickly to the scene shortly before noon, containing the blaze and preventing further destruction. Although no injuries were reported, the immediate danger necessitated the evacuation of residents from at least two nearby houses, as reported by WTAE. The Red Cross is actively working to assist those affected by the fire.
The fire has prompted an investigation due to its suspicious nature. The focus is on determining if there is any connection to two other recent fires in the area. A home on Hatteras Street and another on Lowrie Street, located within close proximity, experienced fires overnight, as WPXI reported. Cara Cruz, the Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson, mentioned to Channel 11 that investigators are looking into all the incidents and the possibility that they may be related.
Amidst the recovery efforts, the Pittsburgh Fire Investigation Unit is working diligently to fully ascertain the cause of the fire, which remains under scrutiny.
