An investigation has been sanctioned into an incident where a Hamblen County corrections officer is accused of assaulting an inmate, as confirmed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). WVLT News reported that the representative of TBI acknowledged the ongoing investigation but withheld the details, including the identity of the officer involved.
Further information on the case has come to light through 6 News, stating that the investigation was initiated at the request of Dan Armstrong, the 3rd Judicial District Attorney General. Hamblen County Sheriff Chad Mullins revealed that the accused officer has been suspended, pending investigation.
Details of the allegations were scant, but it was reported that the supposed assault took place in February. The TBI, committed to their confidentiality policy during active investigations, did not disclose further specifics.
When WBIR 10News reached out to the Hamblen County Sheriff's Office for comment, their response deferred to the TBI's ongoing investigation. As the case unfolds, the public eye rests on the TBI's findings, the judicial process, and, importantly, the measures that will be taken to address and prevent such incidents within the correctional system.
